Hi all, can I please pick your brains?

I had a really good response to Humra, ESR went down to 20 and I was singing and dancing. BigGrin

3 months in I have had a horrible flare, ESR back at 50 and more worrying GFR had a bit of a nose dive down to 38 from 46. ( I have chronic kidney disease with proteinuria, haematuria, hypertension, high creatinine and low GFR which is being monitred)

My rheumy nurse says that some people on Humira get flares and general ups and downs; but in others after an initial good result the body finds a way of circumnavigating the drug. This seems to make sense and we are waiting a month or so to see if I pick up again.

However I am also waiting to hear back from my rheumy consultant about the possible effect on my kidney function and what to do about that.

Has anyone else had to come off an anti-tnf because of kidney side effects and / or has anyone had flares etc after intial good response?

(please ignore esr numbers - don't want to go down that route, just put them there to indicate the difference!!!RollEyes )

I really, really don't want to abandon it yet.

many thanks

Alison

Oh no Alison sorry to hear this as you were doing so well. I don't know much about the impact of Humira on the kidneys, but think that someone on here may have had the experience and will be able to say more. Really sorry can't be of help, and hope that whatever is happening will pass and will see you back dancing and singing again.

When you visited me in hospital you looked so well, and can't help thinking that this is so unfair, however, hopefully this is only a slight blip and not related to the Humira, and something that will settle.

Much love and thinking of you,

Barbara

I've had ups and downs on Humira too Alison. Then after a yearish it didn't seem so effective, I asked if i could be put on to a low dose of MTX in addition and this seems to be doing the trick.
By coincidence, I've also got ealy stages of kidney failure but due to my diabetes.
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Alison,

I still get the occasional flare on humira.
Just recently it seemed to getting less effective towards the end of the 2 weeks so I now have it every 12 days and so far have had better effects.

Hi Alison,

After being on Humira for about a year, I also had a flare-up and was then put on Infliximab instead of the Humira.

Don't lose hope if the Humira doesn't turn out to be the one ... there are two other anti-TNF's and one of them is bound to do the trick!
